Those feelings often lead to parents not asking questions in the moment or feeling like the information was given, but they missed it. We know that school staff are well versed in their practices, but parents can feel uncertain and often fear they will ask a “stupid question.”

We are happy to sit with parents and discuss the options available in most schools. We can review school reports and documentation to increase parent understanding and determine possible family options for support. We have found that sometimes just having a neutral person to talk over the process and paperwork can provide clarity in what families would like to know and what questions they want to ask.

Some types of documentation we can assist with are:

• IEPs

• Eligibility reports

• 504 accommodation plans

• ISAT scores)

If through consultation work, the consultant or client believes that the issues require an advocate to attend school district meetings, a referral will be made.
