Family Support

Family support, also called family therapy, includes many of the same aspects as individual therapy. The participating members are supported by the therapist in a safe, caring, and confidential environment. However, the family often participates as a group. This allows for dynamics to be observed and for the clients to practice the skills and new habits with the support of the therapist. Just like in individual therapy, making small changes can bring life-altering results.

Also like Individual therapy, family therapy is a process. It requires dedication and participation from each of the family clients and the therapist. Often in family therapy it feels as if blame is being placed on one person or one unit (like the parents or children). That is rarely accurate. Most often all members of the family or system play a role in the presenting issue. It is a dynamic that has been created and then maintained through habits of each member. It takes effort and dedication from all members to create a new dynamic and new habits. The therapist is there to help facilitate the growth to achieve outcomes that the family finds more desirable and sustainable.
